SAFE WATER

WELL DEVELOPMENT

26 million Tanzanians don't have safe water - that's almost half the population. This means that water is collected from unsafe sources such as ponds or rivers. Every 60 seconds a child dies from preventable water-borne diseases which means thousands of children die every year from unsafe water.

Families can spend up to half their income treating water-borne illnesses, if they can afford it. Since most cannot afford medical care, these illnesses go untreated. Many die unnecessarily.

Women and children travel for miles and hours to collect water. In remote regions, women and children spend around three hours a day collecting water. This leaves them less time to produce income, care for their children, and for their children to attend school.

A jerry can containing enough water for one person for a day weights about 40 pounds. Many of these water collection sites are in remote areas. Women and children are vulnerable to assaults, injuries and human trafficking.

What does this all mean?

A well can provide a reduction of up to 85% of water-borne illnesses, safety for women and children, more time to care for families, and children an opportunity to attend school.

So far, 54 wells have been developed and 48 have been repaired.

Tanzania has over 10,000 non-functioning wells. Every well we repair is integrated into our program  and will continue to be serviced and repaired by us.

WITH EACH WELL SERVING AN AVERAGE OF 1,500 PEOPLE

OVER 153,000 NOW HAVE SAFE WATER.

The water crisis is preventable. Let's work together until everyone has safe water to drink.

Be a part of this. Help us develop another well and save lives.

We can only continue to help bring safe water with the generosity of our donors.
